1,4-diethylene dioxide, also known as 1,4-dioxane or 1,4-dioxane, is an aprotic organic solvent. Its chemical formula is C₄H₄O₂, and its molecular weight is approximately 88.11. It is a colorless, transparent liquid with a slightly fragrant ester odor. Its solubility is similar to that of dimethylformamide and stronger than that of tetrahydrofuran. It is miscible with water and most organic solvents. This cyclic ether can undergo ring-opening reactions and, under special conditions, coupling reactions.

PRODUCT USES
It is primarily used as a solvent for cellulose nitrate, celluloid, cellulose resins, vegetable oils, mineral oils, and oil-soluble dyes. It is also used in the manufacture of spray paints, varnishes, plasticizers, wetting agents, polishes, paint strippers, fragrances, preservatives, fumigants, deodorants, and pharmaceutical products.
